Yesterday I was surprised to see an email from writely.com to create an account,

I don’t remember signing up to be on their waitlist and I hate waiting but I guess I am glad I did. I jumped on my seat and had an account ready to play with in about 30 seconds. Now, I didn’t stick around after the account was created to see what all I could do but I was glad to have an one. For all of you out there who doesn’t have an account on writely.com, booooo! *snicker* (more…)

I have found that it is hard to find a car with a manual transmisson. Some dealers won’t even list on the website if the transmission is automatic or manual because it is assumed that it would be an automatic. If I was buying a brand new car I wouldn’t mind an automatic but I have heard too many horror stories about an automatic transmission on used cars even when they are only couple of years old. My choices seem to be very limited just because of this one single factor.

Looks like it’s time for me to buy a new car because my 91 Maxima isn’t doing very good right now. I have had the car for five, maybe six years and it has been great. I don’t think I can tell you enough how good a car it was. I am having trouble letting it go! What can I say, it’s a great car but there comes a time when it’s a loosing battle and one must do what needs to be done. (more…)

Sometimes I feel like I have insomnia because I cannot sleep at night even though I am tired and didn’t sleep much the night before but I just can’t. Lying on the bed waiting to fall asleep could be painful but what can you do. If I am trying to sleep for 15-20 minutes and I am still wide awake I just don’t even try. Instead, last night, I left my bed and continued the saving of the world, albeit in a virtual world. What do you get when you combine insomnia with gaming? A little bit of fun that’s for sure. Happy Sys Admin Day to all the Sys Admins out there, don’t you wish people would appreciate you more?

Hello World, my weekend was nice but I got a little sick. I think I am coming down with flu or something. I feel like I got sick not because I caught a virus somewhere but because I played for a long time on the weekend. I haven’t played any games for a while and suddenly on Friday I figured why not play some for old time’s sake. I am glad I did, it was fun. I picked up a copy of Tomb Raider: Legend from the local store and played like there is no tomorrow. I finished the game in twelve hours, needless to say I thought the game could have used more playtime. (more…)

Even though the original article was published on December 9, 2003, it is still mind-boggling. It is a long article but it is a good read, consider the following statements from the article. (more…)

Did you grow up playing Pac-Man and were never able to defeat it? Well now is your chance to show those four ghosts that they are not unbeatable. Get that game cartridge out of your attic and blow away the dust because it’s time to play. Read through this guide, practice hard, and beat the game.

Pac-Man Guide

Who are you? Everybody is driven by the choices they make. Choices begets further choices, and you are defined by those choices. Before you know it you are somebody you didn’t set out to be because of the choices you made. Those choices were not necessarily wrong but they were probably not what you now wanted them to be either. Choose wisely, because once you are done choosing you have to stick with it for the rest of your life.

Work is not always this adventurous but I am not complaining. Today I encountered something that I thought was really funny. There are 300+ UNIX servers here that we have to take care of and the time on all of them is local. Yea right! that is what I thought. I was on a server today that appeared to have the wrong time. Obviously I haven’t encountered this before because the time is kept up-to-date using cron. The time was suppose to be in GMT on this server but I changed it to CDT without noticing. The other administrator comes to me and says

“did you change the time on this server?”
“Yes, the time was messed-up”
“…Time on this server is in GMT”
“$*&$@%..”

You would think that changing the system time wouldn’t do much harm, but some of these servers are running mission critical applications.
