Ramblings

Santa is banned from the Hazleton town of Pennsylvania because he is an illegal immigrant and the town has zero tolerance policy against such immigrants. Santa is urged to stay out of Hazleton this year.

Apparently there is no difference between 0.002 cents and 0.002 dollars, for Verizon that is. Check out this link, go through the transcript, listen to the audio, and if you use Verizon maybe you want to check your bill.

Companies like Best Buy are now doing away with 8-5 work schedule because working more hours doesn’t necesarilly equate to productivity.

At most companies, going AWOL during daylight hours would be grounds for a pink slip. Not at Best Buy. The nation’s leading electronics retailer has embarked on a radical–if risky–experiment to transform a culture once known for killer hours and herd-riding bosses. The endeavor, called ROWE, for “results-only work environment,” seeks to demolish decades-old business dogma that equates physical presence with productivity. The goal at Best Buy is to judge performance on output instead of hours.

Day 6: magnetix 5

For the last couple of days it has been hard to keep up with a-picture-a-day thing I have got going on because we had a major snow storm and I haven’t really been out. But tomorrow is Monday and I’ll be seeing more of the outside, which will give me opportunities to take pictures of things I don’t find very interesting at first but when I switch my camera on I start looking at things from a different eye.

Winter started today with freezing temperature, gloomy clouds and the Sun that was no where to be seen. It is going to be hard to walk around outside without getting the camera wet but hopefully it won’t be raining all the time.

It’s time for a rant. My friend had a phone interview recently and the guy asked him if he knew how to script. A very reasonable question and my friend said yes and yada yada yada the interview goes on and he asks questions about scripting, not bad, until he tells my friend “we are looking for people with at least 18 years of experience”. That’s when I tell my friend, “what the heck?”. The guy had seen the resume before the interview and knew how old my friend would be, 28 to be specific.  So I say, “in order for you to have 18 years of experience you would have to be scripting since you were 10 years old”.

If it were me, I would want to scream at the guy and hang up, whether I’d do it or not is another question. I say if you have been scripting for five years you have pretty darn good experience and know your stuff.

<end of rant>

Writely was open today for registration when I checked this morning so get your account now. It might be just for a little while as I have seen them do before. Of course it comes with a big seal of Beta as with many other Google products.

Yesterday I was surprised to see an email from writely.com to create an account,

For all of you out there who doesn’t have an account on writely.com, booooo! *snicker* (more…)

I have found that it is hard to find a car with a manual transmisson. Some dealers won’t even list on the website if the transmission is automatic or manual because it is assumed that it would be an automatic. If I was buying a brand new car I wouldn’t mind an automatic but I have heard too many horror stories about an automatic transmission on used cars even when they are only couple of years old. My choices seem to be very limited just because of this one single factor.

Looks like it’s time for me to buy a new car because my 91 Maxima isn’t doing very good right now. I have had the car for five, maybe six years and it has been great. I don’t think I can tell you enough how good a car it was. I am having trouble letting it go! What can I say, it’s a great car but there comes a time when it’s a loosing battle and one must do what needs to be done. (more…)
